Criteria for Applying for Funds
Veterinarians interested in receiving grants from the NY State Veterinary Care Fund must complete the form on this page to apply, ensuring all eligibility requirements have been met.
What funds are available to me right now?
Funds are available currently for members of Capital District, Central NY, Genesee Valley, Hudson Valley, Long Island, Westchester/Rockland and Southern Tier regional groups.
Veterinarian
You must be an NYSVMS member in good standing.
Maximum amount per member is $2,000 per year.
Owner
The owner must have a financial barrier to obtaining the necessary care.
A conversation with the owner about what they can afford to contribute is encouraged.
Animal
The animal must be privately owned and not primarily used for breeding or a commercial purpose. Animals owned by or under the care of a shelter or rescue group are not eligible.
The animal’s condition must be a fixable problem if treatment is provided. For animals with severe or chronic conditions humane euthanasia services are eligible for coverage.
Exclusions not covered:
- Chronic medical conditions
- Neoplasia / chemotherapy
- Multiple procedures to treat an issue
- Cosmetic procedures
- Routine preventive care – unless directly related to an acute welfare issue (e.g. spay for pyometra) or otherwise necessary due to public health considerations (e.g. rabies vaccination)
- Private Cremation
