This page explains how we handle your information when you visit the Legacy Companion Wall. We’ve kept it short on purpose — there are no surprises here.
Who we are
The New York State Veterinary Care Fund is a program of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society Education Foundation. We’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps veterinarians provide care to pets whose families can’t afford the full cost of treatment.
How you arrived here
You most likely reached this site through a coded link that we provided to your veterinarian, who then sent it to you. We were not given your email address by your veterinarian — they sent the message directly to you.
What happens with your information
- If you add your pet to the Legacy Companion Wall. The name of your pet, any images or other details you choose to share, and the name of your veterinarian and their hospital will be published on the Legacy Wall. Nothing appears publicly until you approve it.
- If you give us your name and email for updates. We’ll keep your information in strict confidence, store it securely, and never share or sell it to anyone outside our organization. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- If your veterinarian sent you a card through us. Your name and address passed briefly through our system so we could mail the card on their behalf. Once the card was sent, that information was permanently deleted from our records.
Our commitments to you
- We will never sell your information. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
- We will never share your information with third parties outside of what’s needed to operate the Legacy Wall (for example, our website hosting and email service providers, who are bound by their own privacy obligations).
- We will keep contact from us minimal and respectful. If you opt in for updates, you’ll hear from us no more than twice a year.
- You’re always in control. You can ask us to remove your information, update your tribute, or unsubscribe at any time.
