Memorial Giving: Introduction for Veterinary Teams

The New York State Veterinary Care Fund’s Memorial Giving program allows veterinary teams to:

  • Honor a beloved patient through a contribution made in their memory
  • Express care and compassion to grieving families
  • Extend a pet’s legacy by supporting veterinary care for animals in need across New York State
  • Invite families to participate, should they wish to join in giving
1

Veterinary team sends a memorial card and/or email

After a pet has passed, the veterinary team sends a memorial card and/or email to the family expressing their sympathy and support.

The message shares that the practice has made a contribution in the pet’s memory to the New York Veterinary Care Fund, and that their pet will be recognized as a Legacy Companion on the Veterinary Care Legacy Wall.

At the same time, a draft tribute is created on the Veterinary Care Legacy Wall, where Legacy Companions may be viewed by hospital, region, or across New York State.

Owners get a link to add their pet to the Legacy Wall

The pet owner is given a link that enables them to create a tribute with an image of their pet and their own tribute message.

3

Owners can choose to become supporters of the Veterinary Care Fund

If pet owners wish to, they can also make a further donation to the Veterinary Care Fund, or simply opt in to receive further information about our work.

Several state veterinary foundations have used this same process to build, over time, multi-million-dollar endowments that support access to care in their states. Help us achieve the same in New York.
