FDA: VCPRs, Prescribing/dispensing animal drugs and Telemedicine
FDA
The FDA has created a “Dear Veterinarian” letter and FAQ to help answer questions around the VCPR, telemedicine, and whether those besides a veterinarian (such as a midlevel practitioner) may prescribe. FDA has clearly said that they cannot. This letter will be distributed by FDA to veterinarians. Rare, deadly liver cancer rewires cell metabolism to grow
Cornell Chronicle
A deadly liver cancer that mainly affects children and young adults rewires its cellular metabolism in order to thrive, according to a new study that opens the door to exploring new targets for therapies. Fibrolamellar carcinoma, which does not respond to conventional treatments, accounts for only 1-2% of all liver cancers, but is without standard of care and has often metastasized by the time it is detected, leaving patients with approximately a year to live on average.

Workforce: What is best for safe, quality animal care?
AVMA
The past few years have been extremely challenging for veterinary practices and teams. We saw an increase in client demand early in the COVID pandemic, and practices have had team members leave at all levels, at least temporarily. While we continue to face workforce challenges, veterinary patient demand is beginning to return to a pre-pandemic norm. As individuals and as a profession, we’re in favor of solutions that ensure our practices are able to provide quality care for patients now and long into the future.

Is parasite resistance a concern with EPM treatments?
The Horse
My horse was recently treated for equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM). As a preventive measure, my veterinarian recommended a once weekly dose of Protazil (1.56% diclazuril). Is there a danger of creating treatment-resistant protozoan parasites, as has happened with internal parasites?
