NYSVMS held 2024 awards ceremony and holiday party

NYSVMS held the 2024 awards ceremony and holiday party on December 4th at the Albany Marriott. The Merit Award was given to Carmen Fuentealba, DVM, MSc, PhD, (F)AMEE, Dean, LIU CVM, Outstanding Service to Veterinary Medicine to: Mike Sabatino, CFP, CSLP, Sabadoodle and Sue Zizza, Executive Director, LIVMA, Veterinarian of the Year Award to: Leslie Appel, DVM, Executive Director of Shelter Outreach Services and Distinguished Life Service Award to: Andy Fleming, DVM, Past President, NYSVMS. Presidential Citations were given to Stephanie Janeczko, DVM, DABVP, Emily Whalen, Esq., Brown & Weinraub and Tim Atkinson, Executive Director. Special guests from AVMA at the party were: AVMA President Michael Bailey, DVM, DACVR, Mary Bergen, DVM and Jennifer Quammen, DVM. At the Board meeting the following day Lauren Kleine, DVM (left) passed the presidential gavel to Joe D’Abbraccio, DVM as he begins his 2025 term in January. Congratulations to all!

2024 Power of 10 class graduates

NYSVMS held the final 2024 Power of 10 CE program on December 4th. Matthew Hosford, Esq., Lippes Mathias, presented in person and online When OPD Knocks on Your Door. Power of 10 members then received graduation certificates and Power of 10 pins at the holiday party. Only a few months old, Snoopy the beagle puppy wanted nothing more than to run out his zoomies with his new owner Debbie Suprenant of Queensbury, New York, who rescued him from an unsafe housing situation. Suprenant noticed immediately, however, that Snoopy would require special care. “Just looking at him and his front limbs on the day I brought him home, it was obvious to me that something was wrong,” she said.

Cornell awarded NIH National Center on Climate Change and Health grant

Faculty from the Department of Public & Ecosystem Health in the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, in partnership with the University of Pretoria in South Africa, have received an NIH P20 grant to establish the Center for Transformative Infectious Disease Research on Climate, Health and Equity in a Changing Environment (C-CHANGE).

Officials with the FDA have approved a new indication for a monthly fluralaner chewable tablet (Bravecto 1-Month; Intervet and Merck Animal Health). The expanded use of the 1-month formation now includes treatment and control of Asian longhorned tick (Haemaphysalis longicornis) infestation for 1 month in canines ages 8 weeks and older weighing 4.4 lbs or more.
