Cornell Academy of Veterinary Educators conference focuses on reflection, well-being

On June 23-25, the Cornell University College of Medicine welcomed veterinary educators to network and learn at the Cornell Veterinary Educators Academy (CVEA) conference entitled, “Promoting Student Reflection and Self-Regulated Learning in Classrooms and Clinics.” The second in-person conference had roughly 60 participants from institutions across the country, as well as from Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Colombia, and included sessions, workshops and panel discussions.
Call for nominations for the 2023 NYSVMS awards

NYSVMS confers five awards every year and nominees for the awards are selected by the Awards Committee from among nominees from regional boards, regional award recipients, as well as those nominated by the NYSVMS executive board. These nominations are then reviewed by the committee. The committee chair then presents its recommendations to the executive board which gives final approval. The awards will be presented at the annual holiday party in Tarrytown on November 30, 2023.
Education council schedules site visits – July 2023

The AVMA Council on Education (AVMA COE) has scheduled site visits to six schools and colleges of veterinary medicine for the remainder of 2023. Comprehensive site visits are planned for Murdoch University Veterinary School in Australia, Aug. 6-11; the proposed School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ana G. Mendez-Gurabo in Puerto Rico, Aug. 27-31; and the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, Dec. 3-7.
Schwarzman Animal Medical Center honors 2023 veterinary interns and residents

The Stephen & Christine Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC) celebrated the graduation of its 59th class of veterinary interns and residents in a ceremony at The Alfred H. Caspary Auditorium at Rockefeller University on June 29, 2023. According to a release from AMC,1the 2023 graduating class consists of 30 veterinarians, 8 specialty interns, and 10 residents. AMC has now taught over 2,500 postgraduate veterinarians since 1963.
Effects of hay feeders on horse behavior and time budget

Researchers have shown that limited hay availability is often the main factor in the development of abnormal behaviors in horses. Currently, owners have three common hay feeding options available to them—feeding free choice hay, using a slow feeder, or employing automatic hay feeders that can be preset to open and close at various times throughout the day.
