Co-hosted by the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and NYSVMS, our conference features a diversity of species and professional development tracks with something for everyone. We will continue to offer movement sessions, an exhibitor hall, catered meals, networking opportunities, and many fun prizes and extras. This is a hybrid event with onsite, online, and on-demand participation opportunities, so you can earn Continuing Education credit in a way that is most accessible to you! We will be hosting most of the tracks onsite, with our most popular tracks being livestreamed. After the event, select sessions will be available to view for FREE on-demand. Schwarzman Animal Medical Center completes Phase II of 83,000 Square-Foot, $125 Million transformative center
As the world’s largest veterinary teaching hospital dedicated to the advancement of veterinary medicine and NYC’s only Level 1 Veterinary Trauma Center, The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC) announces the completion of Phase II of the hospital’s larger 83,000 square-foot, $125 million transformational center-wide expansion. Phase II includes a brand new commercial tower with nine floors, doubling the capacity to accommodate more pet patients and opening a new, state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit, Medical-Surgical Unit, Avian & Exotics Unit, and Education and Conference Center. The new facility officially opened today, welcoming patients (dogs, cats, birds, and other small animals) 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Dog owners help advance research one DNA test at a time
A canine DNA test from Embark Veterinary doesn’t just give an owner insight into their pet’s ancestry and health. Thanks to a research partnership between Embark and Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), each test also provides findings that could improve dogs’ lives. Embark uses more than 230,000 genetic markers to test every sample for more than 270 genetic health risks, 350 breeds and 55 traits, generating useful data.
AVMA Council on Education Update on Distance Education
AVMA Council on Education’s Accreditation Policies and Procedures of the AVMA Council on Education, January 2025, was revised March 2025. In January of 2025, the AVMA Council on Education (COE) submitted a formal request to the United States Department of Education (ED) to include distance education in its scope of recognition, and this request was approved. This decision was made after careful consideration and consultation with ED, as the best approach to minimize disruption to education and to support student learning and programs. This revised version of the manual contains the newly approved Section 2.6 Policy on Distance Education.
Hill’s releases inaugural global cat report amid push to focus on felines
As industry trends increasingly point to growing cat ownership , Hill’s Pet Nutrition has published the inaugural “2025 World of the Cat Report.” The company’s first feline-focused comprehensive effort comes as a culmination of its Cat Advisory Team (CAT) established in 2024. The group was created in response to a need for resources dedicated to feline medicine and research, according to David Quinter, a regional sales director at Hill’s.

Inhaled albuterol offers more accessible treatment option for elevated potassium levels in cats

A new study, published in theJournal of the American Veterinary Medical Association(JAVMA), found that inhaled albuterol rapidly decreased blood potassium concentrations in cats. Study results offer a potential treatment option for cats with hyperkalemia undergoing surgery or other medical procedures. In felines, a urinary tract obstruction is the most common cause of hyperkalemia. A ruptured urinary bladder can also lead to high potassium levels in these animals.
