Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) today announced the merger of the Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMS) and the Department of Molecular Medicine (MM) to form the Department of Biomedical and Translational Sciences (BTS). The new department aligns foundational biological discovery with disease-focused translational research, while strengthening D.V.M., graduate and undergraduate education and streamlining operations. Dr. Praveen Sethupathy, ’03, former chair of BMS, will lead the new department.

The AVMA closed out 2025 with 111,257 members, representing a 3% increase over 2024. Collaboration among veterinary and veterinary technician organizations has resulted in a renewed focus on strengthening the future of veterinary technician education, credentialing, and support systems across the profession. In October 2025, leaders from the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators (AVTE), the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB), and AVMA convened in person to discuss a number of these issues, including pass rates of the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE). continue reading

A lack of credentialed veterinary technicians due to attrition, for example, means veterinarians can’t staff their practices appropriately.
